Resit evalutation

Project Evaluation.
Project introduction
The unit ‘Make up in motion’ involves two major aspects, the first ‘What the Dickens’ assessed our skills in continuity and looked at whether we as makeup artists would be able to create the same look more than once, as if we were on a real job in the industry such as a theatre. The second was Claudia and Quentin where our designing and creative skills were used to create characters that seemed like they would fit in with a horror series of our choice
How I saw my characters developing.
For Claudia and Quentin I could see a major improvement throughout the development of my character. This was clear as throughout my sketch blog it is clear to see that as I used other texts and researched the makings of a successful horror character/villain I was able to bring my ideas to life. In terms of Miss Havisham and Estella it is clear to see my characters developing with photographic evidence by practicing the looks in class.
How I used ideas from text, film and historical references to inform design for the characters
With regards to Miss Havisham and Estella I started by reading the Charles Dickens novel and watching different adaptations of the novel through the media of film. This informed my design as I could then gage an idea of the characters in their personalities. Also the use of films and texts then allowed me to use the characters states of mind to inform my design work. The use of historical references informed my designs by giving me an idea of how makeup was applied and hair was styles during that time period.
In terms of Claudia and Mrs.Laderman, I watched episodes of the horror series I had chosen and looked at horror books. This allowed me to look at characters that existed in actual horror on tv that then informed the looks and personality of the characters.
Progress of my designing process for this project.
My progress of the design process of my Miss Havisham and Estella was very steady as there was so much to explore in terms of historical elements, there was also a lot of different adaptations of the novel in films which I could also look at. However I found the progress of my designing of Claudia and Mrs. Laderman were not as steady, this is because although you could look at the elements that went into creating the perfect horror character over time, you had to focus on that particular series, which I found there was not that much to look at.
How overall character design impact on viewing figures and potential audience.
The main element of character design that would impact viewing figures and potential audience when designing Miss Havisham and Estella was that you had to design the characters for either film and tv or theatre, if the makeup was too strong for film and tv or too soft for theatre this would impact audience figures.
An attributing factor to viewing figures and potential audience would be that I needed to create a character that would fit with and be adopted by the general age of the audience. For example the tv series I chose had a mainly teenage audience, so I created characters I thought would fit with this.

How I overcame problems with design, materials and gathering my research
To overcome problems with design I would say the main thing that I have done is practice. For example something may have looked good in the design process but when it came to creating the real look, it didn’t. Therefore I feel the main thing was to practice.
How I found working to the brief.
I found working to this brief ok. I feel that both parts of the unit were very different in terms of design, however the skills needed were quite similar. Having to sections of the brief being quite different was good as this meant that I did not lose interest in the project overall.
What I did to improve my work and what I would do differently.
To improve my work I have put more effort into the design process. By this I have created more face charts, particularly with the design for Claudia and Mrs. Laderman. Also I believe that I have thought more about the characters this time. In terms of what I would do differently I would say that I would look at horror in history more, as I believe this would again improve my work.
